Abstract

In the past years there has been a significant change in the conditions of the national health service users, which determined the need of a development in the way people are treated and looked after.
The objective of this thesis is to suggest some perspectives about this type of care and it aims to cause reflection on the role of nurses in current days.
In order to meet these needs, would be more beneficial a holistic approach by health professional, promoting empathic relationship.
Nursing theories have always offered an holistic assistance to people; one in particular is Dr. Jean Watson, who developed a nursing model that focuses on every aspects of being humans.
In addition to the services offered by the national health service, nurses recognize usefulness of other services as well, whose aim is to restore health and well being on a physical, mental and spiritual level.
However, the dissemination of a holistic model within the national health service would require relevant changes in the internal organization. Despite the challenges of promoting this model, it has a wider consent and appreciation by the population compared to the biomedical approach, that’s why it’s desirable the promotion of this transition further.
