Abstract

Gambling has been a recreational and entertaiment activity since ancient times. Nowadays the types of games are various and constantly changing. The gambling disorder is a problematic or pathological behavior conneted to the game that leads to an individual's impairment. This thesis develops an analysis of the problem of compulsive gambling and the patient care with this addiction. The first chapter defines what is meant by gambling, addiction and gambling disorder. Also will be discussed the risk factors, the patient's evolution and the epidemiology of the disorder. The second chapter deals with the issue of prevention, diagnostic tools and different approaches used. The team, that accompanies the individual in his care and rehabilitation path, is multidisciplinary, because this disorder affects the person at 360 degrees: in a health, social and economic level. In the last chapter I will explain the role of different members of the team. Within the multi-professional team also collaborates nurse, working in different care settings. Nursing care includes prevention, therapeutic education, nursing counseling and support to the family. Finally, the last part of the thesis is devoted to the choice of five possible nursing diagnoses for a patient with gambling addiction.
