Abstract
Nowadays bone marrow transplantation (BMT) has become a potential curative therapy for many oncohaematological diseases. It increases not only the patients survival but also the quality of life, thanks to the enormous progress made in the field of drug and the development of new transplantation techniques.
The aim of this thesis is to highlight the important role played by nurse in the care of the patients subjected to BMT.
This composition provides a brief overview of the bone marrows function and it describes the different types of transplantation.
It also illustrates the various phases of the therapeutic process: from the initial taking care of the patient to the preparative regimen, up to the moment of transplant, the period of hospitalization and the follow-up after discharge.
Nursing contribution is presented in every phase, focusing not only on the technical skills of the operator, but also on the importance of the psychological support, the counselling and the therapeutic education.
Finally, it describes the immediate and late potential complications that can occur as a result of transplantation, for which the nurse plays a key role in their prevention and management.
At the end, it is formulated a standardized nursing planning care for a patient subjected to BMT, using the taxonomy NANDA-I, NOC and NIC.
