Abstract
The key elements of this thesis are the modality and peculiarities inherent in the development of nursing profession from its inception to the present day. The historical, legislative and socio-cultural analysis has emerged as the legislative progress has developed a conflict relative to the failed overcoming cultural of the “job description” in the Italian context. This has meant that the ideal character of the nurse is currently only in a culturally embryonic stage, despite the important legislative recognition with the Ministerial Decree 739/94 and the Law 42/99. The possible development of nursing in this sense, would make honor to the holistic vision of nursing thanks to the use of the most intellectual part of our profession, connected to theoretical models and the specific use of the taxonomical language.
