Abstract
Palliative care are becoming increasingly important thanks to the combination of the development of effective treatments for many illnesses and a healthier population has made possible to extend the average life, determing the progressive aging of the population, which always more frequently shows chronic disabling diseases. Therefore, through a review of national and international literature, the specific role and skills of nurses have been studied, skills for delivering the best care in palliative field. It describes, then, the project of development of palliative care processed by Modena and Reggio Emilia, which is consistent with current national legislation and highlights the role played by nurse in the delivery of palliative care. This role is in line with the recommendations found in the main national and international documents relating to the core competences of nurse in palliative care.
