Abstract
This thesis has been made with the aim of creating a guide addressed to health professionals, especially nurses employed in the emergency services outside the hospital. The underlying theme is that of maltreatment in children from birth until adolescence in the environment outside the hospital. I have tried to highlight the nursing aspects, in order to ascertain and to identify individual problems that can arise during the professionals intervention.
In the first chapter epidemiological data has been collected, which clarifies various types of child maltreatment, and also highlighted the possible risk factors and indicators of probable abuse and neglect.
In the second chapter i consider the need for a systematic approach to be taken in a pediatric emergency, the differential diagnosis and methodology for emergency treatment, from theory to practice.
The third and final chapter, focuses on the forensic aspects including; consent to treatment, some laws and regulations on the nurses responsibilities, and finally the regional guidelines are illustrated for operators and Health Care.
To address the complex issue of child abuse in an emergency, unfortunately, today in Modena in reality, protocols of health professionals 118 operating are not yet available.
