Abstract

Aim of the thesis is therefore to analyze the strategies to solve the problem of overcrowding of first pedriatic intervantion points. Drummond defines this one as a  “situation where the demand of services exceeds the capacity of the medical and nursing staff of the strutcture to provide adequate care and quality in a reasonable  amount of time”. In this thesis it's highlighted the fact that the phenomenon of overcrowding of first pediatric intervention points, has highlighted  the poor coordination between hospital and territory and the inadequate presence of primary care in ensuring the taking charge of the child and the continuity of care. In fact, in these structures is accentuated the phenomenon, already detectable for child admissions to inpatient, of access on a voluntary basis: if about 2/3 of the patients children arrive at the hospital without having been visited by the Pediatrician of the territory, beyond the 90% of those who arrive at First Aid Points do it according to the initiative of family members without an idication by a doctor. The difficulty in finding the Paediatrician associated with parents' concerns are the main reasons for this choice, according to reports by themselves: this is partly confirmed by the accesses, which increased especially on weekends and in the late afternoon-evening. This attitude, widespread in Italy and other countries, is also present in the Emilia Romagna regional context and in particular in the province of Modena under the above research study.
