Abstract
This thesis aim to explore the clincal course of patient with ALS, from diagnosis, made in hospital, to protected discharge, with attention to home care.
The progressivity, chronicity and gradual impariment of autonomy and the various functions involving the ALS, require a total care of patient and their families. In order to use social health-care services provided in that specific area, an experienced multidisciplinary team is needed, according of course to the specific needs of the patient during the different stages of his/her disease. In absence of family support, residential care home placement is required, in order to improve the patient's quality of life, already inevitably threatened by the serious disease. The third chapter of this thesis presents the description of an actual clinical case, with the drafting of a care plan by Tassonomia NANDA-I and related NOC and NIC.
The literature review was made through consultation of the main primary and secondary databases, book, journals, scientific papers, studies and websites, according to a systematic process of problem-solving.
The internship has been an useful experience to understand that the patient's needs are not only sanitary but also psychological and socio-related. It also showed the importance of the nurse's role as a professional figure whose work is not only technico-scientific, but also includes educational and relational support in order to give the most suitable care to a person with ALS.
