Abstract

This text is to settle the nurse’s role about the intra-hospital assistance to politrauma patient, following the European Trauma Course (ETC) method, which is almost unknown in Italy. This choice comes from the curiosity and the interest inspired by a university workshop about the assistance to pediatric politrauma. This idea has been confirmed during the apprenticeship into the operating unit of the First Aid, because I had the opportunity to approach and get a theorical knowledge about the method. From the background of epidemiologic and statistic informations I have defined the socio-economic impact, the politrauma effects and the importance of time factor: one of the most important elements of ETC method. The object of this procedure is to increase the management efficiency of the clinical case through a pragmatic way, considering different priorities of the assisted person. Obviously  this must be done safely and quickly by Trauma Team, a specialized equipe formed by different health professionals, including nurses. After the explanation of the principal differences from the ATLS (widely used in Italy), I will describe technical skills and other abilities, such as those comunicatives, Trauma Team nurses must show upon the arrival of the patient, during the resuscitation, after stabilization, while the transfer into other operating units takes place and at last at the moment of the taking charge by the family. Having said that, there will be a short reference to pediatric trauma and to the importance of intraosseous access.
In conclusion I will report data collected through semi -structured qualitative interview demonstrating the effectiveness and validity of the ETC, and emphasizing the key role of the nurse in the Trauma Team .
