Abstract
The description of the chemical characteristics of alcohol and pathophysiological impairments brought by excessive intake of this substance represents the starting point of my thesis, which explores the comorbidity of addiction with one of the most common psychiatric disorders of this century, depression. Major depressive disorder can be a primary cause of the development of alcoholism compromising not only the health of purely physical, but also social, economic and family those affect the quality of life. The thesis focuses in particular on the condition of the female gender and the heart is made up of the history of Lorena, women, mothers and workers, which has a form of alcoholism secondary to depression; this condition compromises the life of the patient and in particular the functionality family. The elaborate descriptions the interventions possible and due to the role of the nurse, paying particular attention to empathy and relationship with either the patient and with his family. The reflection on the psychiatric and psychological lies behind alcohol abuse wants to help defeat the generalization of this type of patient, avoiding prejudices and giving importance to what are the real motives of an addiction.
