Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the need for support, the discomforts and anxieties that can arise in a woman with ostomy at the beginning of the path of pregnancy, and focuses on the competence and pracrive of health experts. I chose this subject, althought little attention is given to the literature, because cases of women with stoma who have been or want to become pregnant are far from marginal. The working method adopted is based on a thorough literature review, consultation texts, journals and web links. I could also enrich my work with material found, personally, from meetings held on the subject. But the real knowledge resource of my research is the interview with the patient, that alone can provide insights to create a suitable literature on the argument, since it is the only one able to point out the medical and socio-psychological gaps of nursing. Studies on ostomy should dwell more on empirical than the investigation of symptoms and pathology, and should then focuse on actual experience of women who have undergone this type of "intervention". The thesis is divided into seven chapters, structured as follows: in the first chapter we find the necessary back-ground on enterostomies; the second chapter analyzes the helping relationship between stoma nurses and pregnant women with stoma; Chapter III deals with the role of the stoma; the IV sexuality and involvement with the partner; V addresses the specific issues of pregnancy with stoma; as Chapter VI, the pivot of the whole project, the prospettazione cases and finally brief remarks on the possibility of institutionalized care or not. I’m aware that many stomaterapists reading this work, they will find anything new, soI would like to specify that the purpose of this paper is to raise awareness among women for pregnancy with ostomy and / or IBD, so do not rule out this possibility.
