Abstract

The goal of this work is to describe the migratory phenomenon in the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, it deals with the syndromic surveillance using statistical data and it analyzes the most diffused pathologies in the migrants focusing on the infestations and on scabies. Finally, it considers a nursing assistance plan for a patient affected by scabies.
At the beginning the main features of the migratory phenomenon will be examined. There are also some statistical data related to the arrivals, the first aid modalities and the cultural mediation.
The syndromic surveillance, the scabies and the most diffused diseases are thoroughly discussed in this work considering the Italian guidelines “Protocollo operativo per la sorveglianza sindromica e la profilassi immunitaria in relazione alla emergenza immigrati dall’Africa settentrionale” and the related monthly reports of the surveillance system organized by “Centro Nazionale di Epidemiologia, Sorveglianza e Promozione della Salute”.
The nursing assistance to a patient affected by scabies must consider different factors: the presence of the individual protection devices, the physic and psychological diseases of patients and the cultural/linguistic block. These are all factors that represent a challenge for the relationship between patient and nurse.
The part that describes the nursing assistance is composed by the priority nursing diagnosis and the different kinds of intervention to adopt.
