Abstract
This thesis analyzes the assessment and treatment of pain referred to the pediatric patient, precisely during the post-operative period, with particular attention to the role that nurses play in it. It describes various techniques and pain scales sorted by relevancy, based on age and cognitive factors, then it investigates the various methods of pain treatment divided by type, and adequate for the age of the pediatric patient.
As references, it cites articles of the most significant literature in treatment of pediatric pain and the management of pediatric patients postoperatively, using primary and secondary databases, and material provided by competent figures.
The work done in this thesis shows that there are countless strategies to measure and treat pain, and consequently to reduce or even prevent it, and confirms how important is nurses’ role in this area.
