Abstract
Purpose. The aim of my thesis is to investigate the role of nurse in the management of pain and palliative care, given to patients with chronic diseases.
Materials and methods. The study has been possible thanks to a thorough literature search that allowed the retrieval, in the main databases and in the official website of the Ministry of Public Health, of many scientific articles. This was followed, therefore, by a careful analysis of the same and, ultimately, a reworking of the content, with the drafting of the different chapters.
Results. The data studied, show clearly and accurately the severity of pain, not only as a symptom, but as a real disease and the importance, in this context, of the nurse, trained professional, actively involved in therapeutic-welfare pathway of palliative care, delivered by highly specialized structures, as well as in patients' homes.
Conclusions. In conclusion, what emerged from the analysis of documents, is that is clear that the figure of the nurse is fundamental to such assistance and that, being this extremely complex and articulated, to increase further the effectiveness and efficiency, it is desirable that the politics will active as soon as possible to expand and implement the specialized skills of the palliative-nurse.
