Abstract
Sexually transmitted infections (STDs) represent one of the most significant public health issues worldwide and nationwide and mainly affect patients in their adolescence and adulthood. Young people are especially at risk, due to the decreasing age of first sexual contact, the paucity of right information and education, and the reluctance to talk about their sexual life. Epidemiological data are worrying: they show an increasing trend of STDs transmission, notably among younger ages, as reported in this retrospective observational study conducted in the STDs Clinic of the Policlinico di Modena Hospital. Prevention and health education play a vital role in reducing the spread of STDs and represent one of nurses’ key duties. With this in view, as conclusion of this research project we have created a brochure, which could be distributed in schools, as an effective prevention tool for adolescents.
