Abstract
The spread of a tool that could improve the safety on the patient in the surgery block started from a precise recommendation issued by the World Health Oraganization.
In Italy the Emilia Romagna region acknowledged this indication by creating a brand new project in order to make local health authorities aware of the tool, as well of understanding its potential errors and possibile improvements so quickly respond in case further complications might arise.
To certify its effectiveness, the healthcare assistant has a key role in both the development and compilation of the tool, as he becomes the person who is responsible for the correct communication and cooperation between different members of the team, which is the most important issue when it comes to safety.
My focuses the attention on the characteristics of the surgery block, thus underlining the importance of the patient's safety in this context and furthermore describing the tool and its capabilities, as well as stressing the prominence of its correct planning.
The last section of my thesis is a comprehensive collection of data gathered within our region's statistics archives that show the multiple issues that have been identified during the preparation of the instrument and the error probability as a consequence.
