Abstract

Palliative care is comprehensive and multidisciplinary care for all patients, suffering from a chronic and progressive, who no longer respond to specific treatments and whose death is the direct result. The terminal cancer patient needs palliative care provided by a multidisciplinary team and multi professional accurately formed. The main place where they are guaranteed under the residential, palliative care is hospice, a place of solidarity, help and if you can love, but also to work where they meet precise scientific knowledge and professional expert. There is talk of a holistic approach to the patient considering all the problems of clinical, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual in order to ensure the assisted the best possible quality of life. The health approach goes beyond medical care and is not so much aimed at the physical healing, as much to "take care" of the person as a whole. "Taking care" of a terminally ill patient is not only deal with the symptoms of the disease, but it also accompany the patient and his family throughout the course of the disease so as to ensure the assisted death with dignity and support the family in the process of mourning
