Abstract
Diabetic foot is a major chronic complication of diabetes.
Besides causing a reduction in patient’s quality of life and autonomy, diabetic foot determines a high cost in healthcare.
Preventive strategies focus on the therapeutic education of the patient.
The major objective of this therapeutic education is patient empowerment .
Nurses can use paper booklet , CD ROM , DVD etc.. to inform the patient about diabetic foot problems.
For this research thesis was created a brochure with information about foot care based on valid scientific evidences.
In the Nursing Unit of the third District of Modena, copies of this booklet have been distributed and explained to thirty diabetic patients with diabetic foot ulcers or at risk of it.
Later it was realized an interview to users with closed and open questions in order to detect patient satisfaction about the information received, to collect the user's opinion about the quality of the brochure presented, to detect whether the information have been perceived as a stimulus for the patient to modify his/her wrong habits.
These are the results of this survey research: 90% of respondents were satisfied, 100% considered useful the booklet , 93.3% found it exhaustive and 96.7% found it clear.
Out of all the people we surveyed: 70% declared to have increased their information on the topic and 80% were convinced to change their incorrect habits.
