Abstract
The object of the graduation thesis is the music therapy. In recent years, this underdeveloped science has become a discipline of study in healthcare environment. The bibliographic research has highlighted the lack of data supporting the efficacy of music therapy in patients in a coma or in a state of minimal responsiveness. In the Emergency room of Udine was tested a protocol of sound-musical stimulation one this type of patients. Therefore it was decided to apply the protocol in the operating unit of neurological emergency room in Baggiovara, in order to verify what effects the intervention of music therapy produce on the neurological state, the state of consciousness and agitation and on the vital signs.
The data collection was carried out in the period between December 2014 and January 2015. It was recruited a sample of 6 patients and observe the changes in respiratory rate, blood pressure, heart rate, trend of neurological rating scales and presence of physical restraint during the music therapy sessions.
Music therapy sessions seems not to worsen the clinical condition of the patient, getting to the limit the maintenance of vital signs and neurological status observed before the session. The lack of evidence on support music therapy deserve further researches, including experiments that can examine in depth the benefits and improve the application protocols.
