Abstract
The Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) is frequently used to mechanically support the heart in patients with cardiogenic shock. The benefit of contropulsation is to improve the coronary flow and a decrease of the left ventricular load.
Nursing care starts directly in hemodynamics room, during the introduction IABP, and ends with the management of the patient after the removal of the device.
The IABP is used with critical and extremely unstable patients’s, so the correct management of it require constant nursing assistance in 24 hours.
Finally the role of nurses is central to recognize and resolved, with skill, clinical care problems about patients with IABP.
