Abstract

Diabetes mellitus type 1 is the most common chronic disease in childhood with an incidence of 3-4%, it will be expected an increase up to 7% in 2020.
Diabetes is a disease manageable and treatable therefore it must be well known both by the patient, the family / caregivers and people spend their time the child (grandparents, baby-sitters, coaches, teachers ..).
At the new diagnosis the family and the child are disoriented and confused, because at the first impression , diabetes is a disease of compulsion and deprivation that doesn't allow you to live a peaceful and "normal" life. When the first moment of denial passes both the child and the family accept the situation and they learn more about pathology and the best strategies to deal with it, the situation will change: will be more serene and peaceful.
At the new diagnosis there are many different information so children and caregivers spend much time to absorb them.
Therapeutic education is appropriate when the phase of disorientation has passed and people pay attention to what nurses and doctors say.
At the discharge the patient want to go home with the precise information that will help him to live a safety life and with the information are necessary to face the days after discharge.
For these reason I propose an interactive brochure that would help the child and family in dealing with the first few days at home
The brochure is formed by 3 parts: an introductory section that explains in broad terms the pathology and daily self-control, a central part in which takes into account the child's life and a conclusion part with games. The aim is to translate the brochure in Arabic and Chinese languages, so foreign people, wich are in the hospital, can use it in order to understand the disease and cure it in the best ways.
