Abstract
Dementia is a syndrome characterized by the loss of higher cortical function, but also of those linked with functional abilities and behavioral; all without alertness’ impairment. It is a progressive and often an irreversible pathology. The management of patients with dementia at home is done by caregiver, often a family, that if it isn’t educated to take care and to the losses of his kinsman, it can develop symptoms like depression, anxiety and express feeling of guilt. All this affects both the caregiver, in both the mental health and physical, that the patient that suffer by health’s changes of his caregiver. Is for this reason that the home care nurses should be able to manage the patient-caregiver dyad, not only under the technical aspect but above under the relational aspect. Case manager nurses must be able to tell the caregiver which services are available on the environment, possibly indicating a house of residence, if the situation become unbearable at home.
