Abstract

This elaborate is about an errors data collection in therapy; in the first part it has been studied the base of risk management, developed with the analysis of syringe infusion pumps, in particular smart pumps, whose use facilitates the work of the nurse in order to reduce accidents related to normal pumps syringe. In the final part of this work, it has been proposed a drug library for smart pumps, created along with other workers (nurses, doctors) operating in Intensive Care Unit at Carpi hospital.
Systematic review of the literature was performed by consulting the catalogs of the libraries of our university, databases (PubMed, CINAHL, UpToDate, Scopus, Cochrane Library) and "grey" literature (websites).
Several search strings have been used in this study, like "infusion pumps", "smart pumps", "syringe pumps", "drug library", "drugs administrations errors", "drug libraries infusion", "smart pumps & errors, infusion pumps & risk management "," smart pumps & errors & intensive care unit "; all of them with linguistic exclusion criteria such as only in Italian and English (the research has discarded two articles: one in German and one in French) and inclusion criteria of time (2009-2013). Analysing documents without criteria of time on Scopus (interdisciplinary database) with the "documents by year", we observe a peak of publications, on the subject, in 2009 and 2013. Doing the same search with the parameter "subject area", we found out 1096 results, decreased to 30 (" health area ") and finally to 3 (" nursing area "). In conclusion, among more than 80 examinated articles abstracts, only those focused on smart pump and errors were kept. Five more articles were taken from the bibliography list as related to main subject.
