Abstract
The aim of this elaborate was to expose the different methods of management of the tibial external fixator looking for any common guideline between the various processes. Have been researched studies, literature reviews and meetings of professionals. Surely missing, among professionals, a unique recognized method to diagnose infections, and this severely limits the results of studies. The chlorhexidine, the use of dressings and conservation of crusts in situ in the absence of sepsis appear to be considered effective methods in the prevention of infection, although the evidence is still insufficient to consider these maneuvers better than other. As regards the frequency of cleaning, there are still more currents of thought. It seems that there are no differences between the treatment weekly and daily, even if the first is not recommended in case of infection. There are no specific prohibitions regarding the shower and the bathroom in a chlorinated pool. Instead, it is forbidden to swim in the sea. Undoubtedly the research must continue because there isnt only one recognized practice to follow to pin site care by health professionals and the results of the studies are quite limited.
