Abstract
The aim of this work was to deepen the most relevant aspects surrounding the terminal patient and his family: the meaning of palliative care; the model of care for proper nursing management (physical, psychological, social, spiritual); ethical aspects of end of life. Was conducted an interview with a palliativiste nurse of Homecare of Carpi, using questions based on a predefined grid. Was conducted a literature review. The research was done in the main database, with the following keywords: nurses"[MeSH Terms] OR nurse[Text Word] AND palliative sedation [Text Word] AND Terminal Care OR End of Life Care ; "nurses" OR nurse AND palliative sedation AND Terminal Care OR End of Life Care; Out of 14 eligible studies have been included 8. Studies have shown: different definitions on terminal sedation / palliative; decision making; the purpose of sedation; the choice of drugs; the meaning of refractoriness; refractory symptoms: physical, psychological and existential; ethical aspects: sedation versus euthanasia. This elaborate allowed me to reflect and to answer some questions that I have during my internship. As confirmed by the studies and interview shows the communication and teamwork are crucial to a proper care plan for the patient. Palliative care is multidisciplinary and this collaboration between the different health professionals around the patient and family is very important. Just as it is important to recognize the role of each individual and the respect of each point of view. The union of these differences can not do nothing but increase the strength of a team that is compared to that works synergistically to the patient's needs of his family. It was also confirmed by studies that poor communication has been a source of failure.
