Abstract

The aim of this study is to obtain a deep analysis about the nursing in triage to women who arrive at the Emergency Department after having suffered a violence. The topic nowadays is very relevant, because of the spread of the phenomenon, as underlined by the WHO, in 2013. Many victims ask for help after a rape or because they want to escape from Intimate Partner Violence. In order to show what type of screening should be used in those situations, many data banks have been consulted, searching scientific evidences. Results claim that in case of abuses an universal screening or, at least, a routine one, should be used. However many obstacles make the research difficult: the lack of vocational training, the lack of internal protocols in the Emergency Department and other problems, such as the absence of privacy or time and the presence of cultural differences. The screening must follow a specific process, based on oral questions, in order to obtain both the patience's consent and the deep understanding of the situation. The composition is not exhaustive, however it can offer to the triage nurses a general view about the topic and some advices for the clinical practice.
