Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to deepen the nursing home care assistance for the caregiver of a terminally ill, oncological patient. Through a review of scientific literature, roper indications for good nursing practice have been developed. In the first chapter, the concepts of palliative care and home care service have been deepened, afterward the practice of palliative sedation has been illustrated, outlining the basics of an appropriate family support. In the second chapter a caregiver’s profile has been traced, consulting the current legislation produced for the support of this role at European, national and regional level. The difficulties the caregiver has to face daily have been explained together with the signs and symptoms of burden. Afterward the interventions to treat properly this condition have been investigated. Moreover a research of literature has been conducted in order to point out the most used burden assessment tools. Through it, a lack of evidence has been noticed, meaning that this field of care needs to be studied more. In the third chapter were retraced the basic principles of nursing as a holistic discipline. In the end an example of nursing care plan has been produced for the benefit of the caregiver.
