Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to underline how disclosure counselling is crucial to the continuum of HIV care for children. To this end, I examined the latest guidelines developed by the World Health Organization on how to support children up to 12 years of age and their caregivers .
Healthcare Professionals understand that the communication of information's HIV is complex because it creates stigma , social concerns , family and fear in children about their ability to understand and address the nature of the disease. As a result, many Health Workers around the world are uncertain about how to communicate the clients. A failure to communicate negatively affects the child's welfare, including access to pediatric care and adherence to treatment . These guidelines are part of a comprehensive approach to ensure the child's physical, emotional, cognitive and social as a result of their HIV diagnosis or that of a parent or caregiver. A literature review undertaken by World Health Organization has found evidence to support the recommendations relevant to the assistance of Health Care Workers.
