Abstract

Introduction: The increase in the sense of fatherhood that is occurring in our society, it also brings in the context of an increase in the need for hospital care and attention to the male figure. This revision of  literature set itself the object to emphasize the importance of the father figure, the stress faced by it, the differences with the female figure, the strategies for adequate nursing care in this figure. 

Contents: By analyzing the different sources that the review provided, the elaborate product was divided into three main chapters. In the first are analyzed and described accurately the sources taken into account; the second is treated father's experience, highlighting in particular the socio-environmental stressors related neonatal intensive care wing and the differences of living compared to the female gender. Finally, the last chapter is emphasized the importance of nursing care, methods of detection of paternal distress, effective interventions for adequate assistance, concluding with a proposed improvement represented by the introduction of an information booklet for fathers. 

Conclusion: The introduction of systems for the detection of distress, use of targeted and calibrated and staff awareness, lead finally to care, to take care of the household as a whole, which consider the needs and individual needs of each component, thus providing effective support to the whole family. In this paper, we hope to bring attention to the new issues of care, with the expectation that new studies of nursing research are also conducted on the male figure.
