Abstract

This work aims to investigate aspects of home care in terminal cancer patients receiving palliative care at home.  The first chapter gives an overview of palliative care, symptom control (with particular reference to chronic pain) and about nursing the patient and the caregivers. The second chapter focuses on the network of local services through which palliative care are provided and in particular the central role played by the PUA (Single Point of Access) in directing the users toward the most appropriate services for their disability or illness. Finally, in the third chapter, there is a presentation of a case, with the development of a care plan in narrative form accompanied by NANDA diagnoses, goals and interventions (NOC and NIC).
The material consulted in the preparation of this work comes from books, studies, newspaper articles, magazines and websites. During the three years of the degree course and thanks to all the learning experiences of training undertaken I have noticed that the care provided by home care in terminal cancer patients is very attentive to the needs of patients and their loved ones, in contrast to what takes place in a hospital setting, where the terminal phase of life is controlled by the operators most often in a detached way (also because of the short time available to health care providers).
