Abstract

This paper investigates the existing literature, analyzing the different applicable clinical modes for a proper venipuncture in the child, to reduce trauma and to improve its efficacy. Puncture or cannulation of a periferic vein, infact, is one of the most  painful procedures as well as most common and frequently essential during hospitalization and urgency conditions in pediatric emergency. The research has been made through the main databases as Pubmed, Cinahl, and secondary databases as Cochrane Library, UpToDate, using boolean operators AND, OR, NOT. The following key words have been used: pain, children, vascular, access, vein, visualization, technology, newborn, venipuncture, success, venous, catheterization, cannulation, local warming, near infrared,  einviewer, vasculuminator, pediatric, distress, intravascular. 18 clinical studies related to my research have been analyzed.
According to this analysis, we can gather that there are scientifically analyzed non pharmacological treatments that can be implemented in our nursing interventions.
Moreover there are new generation devices, conceived for the vein visualisation, that can integrate these non pharmacological methods of pain and trauma reduction and have statistically remarcable scientific outcomes. It would be highy advantageous for the resposible institutions to start a change by implementing these devices in the clinical standard operating procedure.
