Abstract

In this thesis I analyze the role of the nurse in the insertion of the PICC using the ECG.
I begin with the evolution of nursing from the major powers, the improvement of autonomy and consequently the greater responsibility that the nurse must currently have. This premise is fundamental to understand how nurses can now apply the PICC (Peripherally Inserted central catheter) without the help of the figure of the doctor. I describe the advantages and possible disadvantages of the introduction and I describe two methods of control after insertion: RX or using the ECG.
Following a training course, using a protocol approved by the heads of the OU, you can insert the PICC using the ECG, a method that is easier and less expensive than the radiological control. Currently, the PICC is inserted only in hospitalized patients or those who have to travel from home to the OU they refer. This method would make possible to insert PICC at home and for chronic patients, in significant increase, it would be less problematic and less expensive.
