Abstract

The aim of this study is to deepen the care of children with ingestion of button battery, through my experience at the Pediatric Emergency department of Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria of Modena and the search for scientific articles, up to date with the different procedures. Since the ingestion of button battery is a growing phenomenon in the United States but also in Italy, nursing care, as I have seen in apprenticeship, is complex. At the beginning this study taking about the care of the baby, when he arrives in the emergency room, and the key role of the nurse triage, which must be able and should be taken in identifying the principal signs and symptoms. I will describe the nursing procedures and various examination to be carried out in case of ingestion of button battery, such as X-ray localization of the foreign body, the esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) for removal, and will discuss the precautions and nursing interventions in ward after removal of button battery. The nurse plays a key role in promoting good care to the child, but especially against the parent, through the participation to cooperate during practice for the health of the child and activities of listening and support. For the prevention of ingestion of button battery, the Ministry of Health recommends that parents, protect the battery compartment of any device with tape and keep them out of reach of children because of the serious complications that can lead to these.
