Abstract
This thesis aims to define the evolution of the management's process of acute intoxications by opiates and, thanks to the results of the studies exposed, propose alternatives as effective as the intranasal administration of Naloxone using the MAD (Mucosal Atomizer Device), and the use of Naloxone in cardiac arrest in patients with suspected opioid overdose. The first part analyzes the acute intoxication by opiates from an historical, epidemiological and scientific point of view. The second chapter considers the opioid dependence and its treatment. Finally, the third chapter examines the opioid antagonists and, thanks to the results of exposed studies, proposes the use of Naloxone in the cardiac arrest of patients with suspected opiate overdoses and the use of naltrexone in the management of cardiovascular damage derived from cannabinoids. It is documented and demonstrated the efficacy of intranasal administration of Naloxone using MAD in emergency. Its diffusion could involve the active participation of lay rescuer in the overdoses first aid. Its use would result in a reduction of the risk of exposure to biological agents for the operators, but also a reduction of management time.
