Abstract
This dissertation aims at exploring the relationship among the central nervous system, substance dependence and pathological gambling, while examining a well known pathological syndrome: Tourette syndrome. Starting from a case observed during my internship at the Dual Diagnosis department at Villa Igea, I analyse several components of the patient’s life. Through previous literature, I describe the reality of substance abuse and pathological gambling, analysing their effects on the human nervous system. Particular attention is also directed to hepatitis C, an infectious disease the patient is afflicted by, like many other drug addicts. Finally, I focus on the role of places in the province of Modena, such as SerT and Villa Igea, which offer to drugs addicts a valuable way out from substance abuse.
