Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to describe the importance of proper nursing care to a patient who has undergone amputation of the thumb. The paper aims to explain how difficult and complex is the structure of the hand emphasizing the concept that it is indispensable in everyday life, especially their first finger. The thesis is composed of an introductory part where it describes the anatomy of the hand. The first chapters deal with the various amputations of the thumb and patients undergoing this surgery replanting. The last few chapters describe the different stages of surgery. The thesis traces the clinical pathway that the patient must follow.  The first step is access to the emergency room, where there is the first contact with the patient.  The examinations are performed and the trauma is rated. This is followed by the preparation for surgery and during the operation the thumb is reattached. The last step provides for the postoperative care through the use of specific treatments and physical rehabilitation. The thesis aims to highlight the professionalism of the nurse, their autonomy and the importance of their role in ensuring and responding effectively to the demands of patient care by implementing customized assitance. The nurse in the emergency room deals with the physical and psychological state of the patient and ensures that the patient is prepared for the surgery. The nurse manages the operating room  and assists the surgeon during surgery. Finally, the post-operative care process aims to prevent complications, make dressings and promote optimal physical well-being of the patient by educating the patient of the post-operative care after their release.
