Abstract

Tissue donation is an extremely complex and delicate subject that has many facets, ranging from medicine to law, from scientific research ethics, professional ethics, to religious and socio-cultural aspects. It is placed in a very particular context of medicine, topical and that presents some problems difficult to solve, not only medically but also of a moral nature. Through the donation of tissues, it is literally possible to "save lives".
I have personally experienced all of these problems related to the topic of donation, during the period of internship in the Department of ICUs of the Nuovo Ospedale Civile S. Agostino-Estense di Baggiovara, understanding that the process of tissue donation requires a good organization and a mature ability to work in teams integrating knowledge and skills of different professions. For this reason it is a useful procedure, which guide the work of the nurse during the path that leads to the removal of tissues, and that the uniform act for all the professionals of the Unit. The procedure that I have compiled in collaboration with head nurse, coordinator, nurses and doctors of the department is currently applied in ICUs. To this it was decided to initiate a check-list, which quickly summarizes the practical steps taken and that each nurse is required to fill out and sign in the course of the procedure, hoping that this work will bring real help to the department and an increase operational towards optimal techniques.
