Abstract

The thesis was born in the interest  to investigate a subject of great importance in health care , such as nursing management of patients with severe sepsis caused by the surgical site infection . The nurse is responsable for planning , assessing and managing the care plane in the patient with surgical wound , trought care interventions supported by the most recent guidelines in order to prevent the onset of infection. Therefore, in the thesis are illustrated nursing skills required for optimal care in a patients with surgical wound . However, a clinical picture’s worsening  may lead the patient to develop in a sepsis syndrome . The assistance at the septic patient requires great skill and expertise, their critical care nurse , who must be able to recognize early signs and symptoms of this syndrome and the various changes that may occur against organs and systems . This script consists in a review of the literature on the management for patients with severe sepsis caused by infection of the surgical site , ranging from the use of standard precautions and additional management of dressings, up to the standards of isolation in patients with multidrug-resistant infections ( MDRO ) and the correct execution of culture tests . The contribution I wanted to make up through my thesis, concerns the management of proper supervision. In fact, the regional system surveillance " SIChER " serves as a useful tool for monitoring the calculation of the " Asepsis Score" for an evaluation of the process of healing of the surgical wound . Finally , to bring the issues in the practice of patient septic care , it was developed a clinical case , where there are identified the possible nursing diagnosis for a patient who presents a picture of severe sepsis , with its objectives and care interventions .
