Abstract

Objective: Assessment of the hygiene of the oral cavity of patients who are cared in different Operative Units.
Method
- Sample: patients in the Intensive Care Units of Post Operative, First Aid and Integrated Home Care.
- Evaluation Board: Holistic and Reliable Oral Assessment Tool - THROAT "taken from the guideline" Hygiene of oral cavity: assessment and nursing interventions "RNAO of December 2008. The evaluation board is structured to ensure the anonymity, individuality and privacy of the build. It consists of 9 items closed questions and is divided into 2 sections: a general section in which we investigate the personal data of the subject at a later point, information is required on the state of the lips, on the type of teeth of the subject (own teeth, denture fixed or mobile, both) and their status on the state of the gums, mucous membranes, palate, tongue, floor of the mouth, smell and texture of saliva.
- Results: comparing 3 U.O. it is seen that in general the majority of patients obtained as Assessment of the oral cavity the value 1, corresponding to an average quality of oral hygiene.
- Conclusion: becoming conscious of the fact that in the emergency department practice of oral hygiene can be considered secondary to life-saving procedures, according to what was observed in the other Operative Units, it is advisable that, on the one hand, family members of patients cared for in ADI are personally involved in improving the conditions of the oral cavity through proper health education, and second, that users ICU Post Operative, not being self-sufficient and also not being able to rely on their relatives because of the special characteristics of this Unit, is dispensed with greater assiduity that service by nurses.
