Abstract

The aim of my thesis is to introduce the Advanced Practice Nurse, in particular meditating upon the role that this profession can have in our National Health Service, in comparison to the Spanish reality. The work can be divided into three parts. The first one has an introductive purpose, describing briefly the situation in some States of WHO related to the diffusion of Nurse Practitioner. The second one, can be considered as an analysis of the nurse training in Italy and Spain. This two different systems will be compared in the last part of the work. The goal of the thesis is to describe the benefits deriving from the acquisition of the new skills by nurses, such as: prescribing medicines, clinical consultation, creation of nursing practices and the use of new tools. The challenge of the closest future is represented by the modification of the barriers established by other professionals, and also by the revision of the areas of autonomy and collaboration between them. We have to keep  in mind that we should not compare the advanced nursing  practice with medical practice, in order not to incite a competitive relationship. It’s of primary importance to understand that those two professions are not indistinguishable, in fact, we are talking about two professions that work to achieve the same goal having two different tasks. Thanks to Nursing Advanced Practice nurses do not aim for a limited medical practice of their own, but they attempt to achieve a complete nursing practice. Finally it appears that organizational strategies are necessary, conveniently supported by the legislative that aspire to the professional recognition of nurses and their advanced competence in order to contribute to the improvement of the medical assistance that offer the citizens every day.
