Abstract

This thesis aims to demonstrate the operative potential of nursing ultrasound as an aid to reduce the difficulties and the morbidity of certain maneuvers. It's not diagnostic ultrasound, but a particular form of operational ultrasound .This is a non research  thesis based on a search of texts, articles from newspapers, magazines and websites, that showed how the ultrasound as a nursing tool  is a useful means to make more complete and integrated nursing. The thesis is structured in four chapters, the first chapter covers the history of ultrasound, its evolution in health and the physical principles. In the second chapter are discussed the various fields of application in which the ultrasound can be used today, from nursing in critical care to the ordinary medical and surgical wards,  highlighting the key role of ultrasound in the management of the vascular asset of the  patient, in the catheterization of the bladder, in the triage and classification of respiratory emergencies (shortness of breath , chest pain, etc. . ), for a proper allocation of the degree of severity and the consequent optimization of medical care priorities. In the third chapter are summarized the results of a systematic research demonstrating that nursing ultrasound is an excellent tool for the nurse as to better meet the needs of the patient. Finally, in the fourth and final chapter is illustrated the training that the nurse must undertake to exploit the full potential of the ultrasound.
