Abstract
This thesis means to prove the importance of health and therapeutic education to epileptic patients, to caregivers e to the community in general. The concept of education, intended as a part of the whole nursing care process, is introduced here within a wider, more general speech regarding this disease which includes etiology, symptoms and treatments (chapter 1) and nursing care process (chapter 2). Following, the paper introduces the student’s personal contribution to the nursing profession, which is a possible brochure aimed to both an informative and educative task (chapter 3). The brochure does not specifically address epileptic patients only, who are in the first person concerned about their care plan, but the whole social community, in order to promote a wider knowledge about epilepsy as well as to trigger the assumption of a healthier lifestyle and to correctbehavioursand prejudices against epileptic patients. The idea of this brochure comes, in the first place, after interviewing an epileptic patient, whose story suggested the need to spread a wider awareness on this pathology. My internship experience at the Neurology Department of Carpi Ramazzini Hospital (Modena, Italy) strengthened that certainty and persuaded me of the usefulness of such an instrument as this brochure is , for not only will it help epileptics live a better life but it will also supply nurses with one more source to get an increasing health into the community.
