CONTENT : After have talk about the theme of children’s hospitalization and the effects that it can have on small user and his family , we wanted to investigate how the different techniques used by health professionals can be supportive in order to reduce the child’s anxiety during the phase that goes from acceptance in the ward until discharge after surgery .
METHOD : The research was carried out by examining scientific articles and books, having as topic the theme of children’s acceptance in the hospital and the analysis of the various non-pharmacological’s distraction techniques used by the hospital staff.
We proceeded by analyzing the individual distraction techniques (specifically clown therapy , play therapy and art therapy ) in order to demonstrate its ' actual effect in reducing hospitalization’s anxiety in small user .
CONCLUSIONS : Analysing the different sources , has emerged as non-pharmacological’s distraction techniques, especially used with children under the age of 10 years, can be help in making them understand the reason of hospitalization and surgery.
There are , however, still many health professionals who prefers to use mostly pharmacological methods to alleviate the young patient’s anxiety, the reasons of these choices are due to a lack of training, inadequate environments operators or simply a certain mistrust against these new techniques .
In the future we hope that these techniques will be encouraged and utilized by all health professionals in order to have a informed patient, with a manageable anxiety’s level and who knows exactly what in going to meet, in spite of his young age.
