The Communication is a strategic element in the context of health care organizations , it is an instrument of managing the complexity that characterizes the internal environment, both in terms of human resources and work processes.
In the working environment of the operating theater, in which operate multi-professional health teams, the goal is to ensure proper functionality, effectiveness, efficiency and stability, for a better care continuity.
To achieve these objectives, seeking a perfect communications is vital, in fact about 56% of intraoperative or postoperative complications originates from a misunderstanding or a communication deficiency.
In the operating theater a high degree of coordination between individuals and groups is needed. This kind of teamwork-style requires effective communication. This paper explains an “improvement project” that has been designed and tested; it is based on a new nursing record, specifically created to support the communication processes between the various actors of the operating theater team. This “nursery record” helps create a “caring bridge” for the patient through the various stages of the operative course, up to the relocation in a hospital stay unit.
The nursing record presented in this paper sets the groundwork for an analysis of communication processes within the operating structure; its goal is to create and make available a tool to implement these communication processes, and increased safety for the patient in the operating theater, Its final aim is the standardization of communication for the personalization of care.
