Abstract

Aim: In relation to my experiences during these 3 years of university, I have often faced situations in which finding a solution, in terms of nursing, was often complex and challenging. The main reason that led me to investigate this type of problem arises primarily from the desire to improve my professional skills regarding health education and the quality of life of the patient as well. Method: I did a research among the literature in the PubMed database using the following key words: "Sexual functioning / breast cancer" [Mesh]; Sexuality / Mastectomy [Mesh]; "Sexuality / Breast cancer [Mesh]. Results: Sexuality is a fundamental and important domain of human experience, which can be damaged during and after cancer treatment. Several studies refer to sexual function as an important area of health and quality of life of cancer patients, however, this area lacks appropriate support and improvement from health care workers (5). The risk of sexual dysfunction is even more important among younger cancer patients and survivors. Conclusions: To date, women are more likely to survive breast cancer then in the past, but the treatment regimens are unfortunately accompanied by a series of physical, psychological, social and existential problems. Cancer care is founded on the principles of multidisciplinary approach: learning to work in teams is becoming increasingly important in the health sector, this enhanches the willingness to invest in the development of healthcare strategies, including a series of transcendental aspects juxtaposed to the strictly organic ones.
