Abstract

My thesis is divided in three different parts; the first and the second parts are descriptive while in the last part there is write the essencial of the text. The first section begin with the explanation of what an hospice is and the description of the situation of these structures in Italy. Afterwards I've illustrated why one city like Modena needs of an hospice and how this structure delivers locally palliative care. In the second part I've continued defining what palliative care are, for who are these and what the quality of life is. I'm also focused on the description of terminally ill, understood by many people as a cancer patient but that in reality includes a wide variety of diseases and therefore of different types of patients who require all of assistance that knows evaluate the totality of the person. In the last section I explained the different needs of the terminally ill and then highlight the most important things to consider in the assessment and then develop an example of a care plan. With this text I wanted to describe the activity of the hospice and the difficulty of care they require. The terminally ill indeed deviates from the high types of patients because its assistance requires a lot of energy. The nurse in this particular area must be able to understand the needs of the patient and must be able to meet the needs that comes out. From this it follows that the nursing responsibilities in this field is very high and is more likely to bring nurses to " burnout syndrome ". For this reason, the assistance is delivered to the patient by a team composed of various professionals that deal with the person within its competence. In this way every health is supported in its activity by the other members of the team, thus ensuring comprehensive assistance to the patient that takes into account every single aspect of his condition.
