Abstract
This thesis aims to explore the nursing management of CPAP in the pre-hospital treatment / care as an early treatment of an acute respiratory failure. This is done by analyzing various aspects ranging from on-site evaluation to the choice of the most suitable device for an effective and efficient nursing care. The CPAP is considered in an international literature as 'the gold standard' of the early treatment of EPAC, asthma, COPD exacerbations and also various forms of ARDS. The success of the treatment depends very much on the training of the operators, their professional skills and experience and also their knowledge in recognizing various problems this system for non-invasive ventilation may have as well as the ineffectiveness of the treatment and the use of invasive procedures, such as intubation gold-tracheal. The performance and characteristics of the three types of devices currently used by the Unit of Modena and Mirandola, the Boussignac, the Ventumask and the helmet, have been analyzed. According to the latest studies the Ventumask and the helmet appear to be the devices with the most excellent performance regarding the efficiency, cost and the ease of use.
