Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to underline how is important therapeutical education in a surgical context, especially for outpatient surgery; in fact, in this case, the most delicate moment for the patient’s healing starts after the surgery.
In this kind of operations the patient plays a very important role, as he must be able to manage his treatments at home, following the strict recommendations given by the medical staff of the outpatient surgery. Then, the nurse must be just like a teacher, he must be able to give his pupil the right instruments in order to improve his welfare and his health in general. In this work it’s widely explained how necessary is to develop a personalized educative plan for the medical staff who takes care of the patient during this stage. It is born from the need to intervene directly on the health outcomes of the patient.
It’s fundamental to establish a relationship based on trust, in order to reach the final aim, but also to encourage the patient to express his questions and doubts, and to promote a shared process to reach a health outcome based on awareness and serenity.
In this work we tried to create a booklet as educational model, to support the staff of the outpatient surgery and to help the patient at home.
This project wants to incentive the time dedicated to inform and to educate the patient, by empowering the communication techniques and making them reachable to everyone. In this way the patient could cooperate more to his treatment, following it better, and he could discover earlier the complications. The healing processes would be faster, there would be less hospitalizations and less work for the nurses and for the future patients.
